No, It's Not Time to Panic (It's NEVER Time to Panic)

So we were expecting a 162-0 season and things have gotten off to a rocky start.

Yeah, big deal.

You'll recall the 1998 Yankees began 0-3 and they did okay when the games were all counted up. It's April. Chill out. Literally. When the weather actually becomes warm (and they're assuring us that by July that will happen), this team will be just fine.

"Oh, but the Red Sox are 8-1 and we're 3.5 games behind! The bullpen can't pitch! Giancarlo Stanton can't hit! Disaster! Famine! Locusts!"

It's the second week in April. Calm down. Injuries will be healed. Timing will be re-found. Pitching will be pitched.

I'm not usually the most optimistic guy on the block but I'm hardly tearing my newly-grown hair out over a 5-5 start. I'm old now. I've seen WAY worse beginnings and sometimes, on teams that didn't have this much talent, they turned out fine.

Gary Sanchez isn't going to hit below .200 all year. Neither is Stanton. He had a lousy first half last season, or does the Yankee fan base not know that? He came out of it okay enough to win the NL MVP. Maybe Aaron Judge WON'T hit 50 home runs this year. Remember that 40 is still damn good. So for that matter is 30.

And Mr. Cashman always has plans. We need a pitcher around the trade deadline? He'll find a way. Miguel Andujar isn't the next Graig Nettles? Brandon Drury isn't Brooks Robinson? Something will be done.

There's no guarantee the Yankees are going to win the World Series this year. There's no guarantee they'll win the division this year. There's no guarantee they'll make the playoffs, or even be a .500 team. But if you read the backs of the baseball cards, you have to figure they're going to be in the hunt and someone will step up.

It's April. Calm the heck down.
